New Parish Library established
In early 2016 the Ashford Parish Council came up with the innovative idea of purchasing the old GPO Public Telephone Kiosk in Adder Lane to convert into a permanent Ashford Library. A deal was done with BT in the sum of £1 and a small group of parishoners under the guidance of John Bleach fitted out the kiosk with shelves and noticeboard. It is surprising how many books can fit into a well devised shelving system!
Parishoners supply new and used books - W.H.Smith also kindly donated books - and a grand opening took place in the Autumn of 2016. An honesty loan system is working very well indeed with a good turnover of books. Seldom borrowed books are replaced with different ones and parishoners are encouraged to simply deposit additional books when they please.
